Hotel:
We have reserved a block of rooms at the Hyatt Place in Medford, MA for Fri-Sun (July 23-25) for $115/night, not including tax. If anyone is arriving earlier than that, the Hyatt is willing to give that same rate for Wednesday and Thursday nights, as well. Just ask for Macaire (muh-CARE) in the sales office and let her know what dates are needed.
Right now these rooms are not available on the Hyatt website, so people will need to call or email Macaire at Macaire.Matchett@hyattselect.com or 781-395-8500 ext. 5104. Mention that you want the group rate under either of our last names.
They are currently holding 20 rooms, and at least 18 are gone! The cutoff date to reserve was June 1st, 2010, but they may have a few left.
It’s a pretty good hotel; it has a pool and I believe a nice breakfast and parking are included. Plus, it’s incredibly conveniently located RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from Springstep where the wedding will be. Note that the Hyatt does not have an airport pickup shuttle, but they do pick up from the Davis Square subway stop (see Subway section for more info).
Other hotels in the area include:
La Quinta at 23 Cummings Street, Somerville, MA 02145 and
Homewood Suites Cambridge/Arlington at 1 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA 02474
Note: Both of these hotels are about 10 minutes from Springstep by car.
Taxi:
If you want a taxi, we recommend doing the following (it’s around $30, but it’s cheaper than most other taxi services):
1) Call 781-648-1000 or 781-396-5000 BEFORE you take off and let them know your flight info.
2) Call them again once your plane lands in Logan, and they will send a cab.
Subway:
To get to the subway from the airport, take the free bus (#22, 33, 0r 55) from the airport to the Airport subway station, and buy a Charlie Card (subway pass) there.
You have two choices if you take the subway: Wellington Station and Davis Square.
To get to Wellington Station, ride the Blue Line inbound to State Station. Then transfer to the Orange Line and ride it outbound to Wellington (the Orange Line train will say “Oak Grove” on the front). Once you are at Wellington, you can catch a cab (about a 7-minute drive) or take the #134 bus, which stops right in front of the hotel.
To get to Davis Square, ride the Blue Line inbound to Government Center, transfer to the Green Line and go one stop to Park Street, and transfer to the Red Line (outbound – the train will say “Alewife” on it). Once you are at Davis, you can catch a cab (about a 12-minute drive) or take the #94 bus, which stops right at City Hall, across the street from the hotel. The hotel also offers complimentary shuttle service from Davis Square; call them for more information.
